Join us for a showing of Battle of Algiers — one of the most influential films of the 20th Century. The movie, released in 1966, takes a look at the Algerian struggle for independence. In 1988 Israel banned the movie from being shown, and today the comparison of Israel’s situation with the Algerian War continues to crop up in the Israeli political debate and remains a recurrent topic. In 2003, the film again made the news after the Directorate for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict at The Pentagon offered a screening of the film.

The event is open to the public, however space is limited, so please be sure to RSVP if you plan to attend.

ADC DC Area is happy to post the following announcement from our friends at Interfaith Peace-Builders. For more information, please contact Emily Seigel, Delegation Coordinator at IFPB.

Interfaith Peace-Builders is very pleased to announce that two substantial scholarships are now available for young professionals and students (ages 18-30) who wish to join one of our delegations to Israel/Palestine in the summer of 2011. The scholarships, to be awarded on a combination of merit and need, will provide two candidates with $1000 each toward the costs of joining a delegation. These have been specifically created in recognition of the immense value IFPB delegations have already proven to bring to the experience and understanding of youth who have participated in the program.

In addition to the major scholarships, all applicants will also be considered for smaller financial aid packages ranging from $250 – $500.

Deadline for scholarship applications is January 28, 2011.
